The study examined the parents, students and teachers views regarding the impact of the internet in educational path with special emphasis on online home work, and its impact on student performance and academic marks. A lot of data was obtained from a study conducted by the Department of Education in India. The study was carried out for all the subjects like Maths, English, Hindi, Science, Arts, Social Studies, Religious Studies and History.
Parental opinion of students were gathered through questionnaires. These questionnaires covered many aspects including the perception of various students in relation to the amount of work that they feel they have to carry out. As per these survey results, the children feel that their parents are happy with the online work and feel it is an ideal way to pass their time. But the problem is the amount of work they feel that they have to perform.
The second aspect of the questionnaires that were asked to the students is the level of confidence that the students feel. This was taken as a reflection of their level of academic performance. It also indicated their level of confidence in themselves. The survey results showed that both the girls and boys have similar level of confidence that increases with age. The boys have a clear perception that their parents are happy with their internet work and feel it is an ideal method of studying. However, the girls do not share this confidence.
In the study the students were asked to answer various questions relating to their use of the internet in school and at home. One such question was as to whether they would prefer to do their work in their homes or in an office. The students who did their work in their homes felt the need to do their homework on their own and felt that it is a better way to do their assignments. They felt that they get more time to complete their homework and this is one of the main reasons why they prefer to work in their homes rather than in an office.
The students were also asked whether they would prefer to do their online work in front of a teacher or not. In case of yes or no answers, it meant that the students prefer being supervised than doing their own assignments. The teachers are very much interested in these results and feel that they have to take steps to ensure that their students are able to do their assignments on time.
Students’ attitude towards internet-based education is very different from the students’ attitude towards traditional schooling. There are many students who feel that it has improved their life drastically. and as a result their families are more satisfied with their education.
